History

In 1989, Henry Hinton founded New East Communications in Greenville, NC. The company owned and operated radio stations in Eastern North Carolina for 14 years. The stations were 98.3 WCZI Greenville, 94.3 WGPM Greenville and 103.3 WKQT Morehead City (currently V-103, WMGV).

Cable 7, a local community based cable television channel, was added to the group in 1997. Locally produced programs from WCZI-FM were simulcast on the station and other television-only programs were developed. Through a programming agreement with Cox Communications, Cable 7 continues its mission today reaching over 55,000 homes in the Greenville-Washington-Williamston-Bethel-Robersonville areas, now simulcasting many Talk 1070 local programs.

Southeast Video Productions, the largest producer of television commercials east of Raleigh, was purchased as the production arm of the company in 1999. Production manager Robert Bonner purchased Southeast Video from HMG in January of 2005. Through that agreement SEV remained in the same building and provides production for Cable 7 today.

In December of 2002, New East sold its remaining radio stations, WCZI and WGPM, to Archway Broadcasting Group of Atlanta. WKQT was divested in 1996.

At that time, New East was dissolved and the company was restructured under the name Hinton Media Group.

In 2004 HMG formed a partnership with Beasley Broadcasting Group, one of the largest broadcast groups in America, on radio station WNCT-AM in Greenville. HMG developed the brand "Talk 1070" for the station and handles all marketing, programming and advertising sales.

In April of 2006, Talk 1070 became just the third AM station in the state to broadcast at 50,000 watts. It is the first station in the state to broadcast in high definition on the AM band.
